Hello dearies! I hope you are doing really great? I am too ;). Today is another day for the guys, team guys we hail thee!!!🙌.
When it comes to menswear, nothing makes a man look more stylish than a tailored piece. The best part is that it can highlight aspects of your figure, making you look graceful and complete. So, I picked out one of the wardrobe essentials for guys and it is the waistcoat.
Waistcoats adapt to various social situations which gives enough room for experiment. It is one of the pieces of men’s clothing that has endured the dynamic years of fashion and it is still very much in trend.
Do you have a waistcoat and not confident to put it on? or are you planning to get?. Here are the basic rules you need to know to make you look devilishly stylish the next time you step out *winks*.
1. Good fit
Remember, fit is king. Make sure there are no excess material that will make you look bigger than you are. The whole point of a waistcoat is to help you appear more streamlined and tidy.
2. Button up
Waistcoats are designed to make you look put together. So button up the piece and remember to leave the last button undone. This is done to avoid pulling the material when you raise your arms, sit down or turn your torso. Some prefer to leave the top button undone but it’s optional and depends on your personal preferences. Leaving the last button undone, however, is a tradition which is over a hundred years old.
3. Accessorize well
A good number of waistcoats have
pockets and lapels, put in some detail pieces to spice up the outfit and accessorize also.
It has to extend beneath the waist line to avoid extension of the shirt underneath. Otherwise, it shouldn’t be called a ‘waistcoat’.
5. Why are you buying a waistcoat?
Unless it comes as part of a three-piece, don’t try to colour match with other suits you already own. Regardless of how close you can get the shade, it will never be identical and this can look like you wore the wrong waistcoat by mistake 😹😹😹. Instead, choose colours that complement or contrast so people can think it was a conscious decision 👊.
It doesn’t have to be the normal suit material. Fabrics such as linen, cotton or tweed, will add texture and depth to your ensemble.
I hope you have gained a thing or two. Why not let me know whether you’re a waistcoat fan and how you like to wear yours in the comments section below.
